I have a 1978-1980 40 HP Mariner (Yes I know it is a Yamaha made one), the steering bracket is cracked badly from a previous owner. Does anyone know if the powerhead must come off to remove it? It seems it does. Does anyone know where to find one??

Can't believe what a thin casting that is for a critical component; maybe it can be welded - if you find one to replace it buy the powerhead gaskets before you take it apart (it looks to me like the bolt goes into the Dyna-float mount.)

Thanks I did find another one off a bad engine. I tore it down to get it but had someone else install it on mine. Way too much work to reassemble all of that correctly

I’d just get a used one. Can find them commonly online. I’d also use the steering tube too, if you wanted a proper job
