40C EL sn 6E9-416473 thru 6E9-421567 1985

I would start by putting a new diaphram in the fuel pump ($10)

When the get old, they develope holes, which leak into the crankcase, causing the engine to run rich, and can cause the plugs to foul, and raw gas to exit thru the exhaust.

Bingo...did just that and replaced the diaphrams and it solved the problem...back to running great....the cost was 27 bucks or 49 bucks for a new water pump.. i did both..now i have a back up just in case...beats $105/ hr maintenance cost...thanks again
