Hi all. After many, many years of trusty, reliable service my little 3 hp, air-cooled Gamefisher kicker motor is acting up. I believe the centrifugal clutch may be worn/broken as I can now spin the prop in either direction, even with the motor turned off, whereas I was unable to do so in the past. As a result, the prop spins even at the lowest idle settings. I used to be able to set the idle so low you could practically count the rpm without the prop engaging, then as you rolled on the power, the prop would engage and off you go. Now, the prop spins no matter what, and I can't get the motor to idle down like I used to despite multiple carb cleanings and fuel line inspections. It also bogs down and hesitates slightly when giving it more throttle, but I think that may be a separate issue. It's now as if the clutch is permanently engaged. It works great at higher rpms and can run WOT all day without issue, but it no longer idles like it used to. Is there any way to remove the power head to inspect/repair the clutch itself? I'd hate to have to get rid of it, but it may cost more to fix than its worth. Thanks for any help.
