Hi,

I recently purchased a new 3.0 engine for my boat and installed it myself. I put in a 160 degree thermostat and at normal running temperature I am seeing 180 - 200 F. Is this normal? If not, what would cause this? I did get new impellers put in outdrive last year. This is raw water cooled.

To hot. Get an IR temp gun and check the engine temp right next to the temp sending unit and see if it comes up the same as the gauge.
You may not have an overheat, just a gauge showing it.

Raw water cooled engine with a 160? thermostat, depending on the outside water temp, probably 160? at idle, 170? to 175? at full speed out on the water. NEVER 190? to 200?

mine runs 190-200 on the electric dash gauge, The manual gauge I have back at the engine is 160 deg.
I just use my dash gauge as an indicator, also installed a 180 deg. temp alarm with buzzer and light.
