270 or 280??? Need identification and Advice

Hi guys u have a volvo 270 or 280 outdrive that i really have no clue but i think it has a SN is there a way you guys could tell me what year, model and ratio it might be from the SN. Also how would i check the fluid with out draining it.

Thanks ill post a pic and SN if wanted when the rain stops. so much for my day on the water

A pic would help with the ID. In the center of the top cap, there is a screw in dipstick to check the oil in the drive. The gear ratio depends on the engine its attached to. Or, you can remove the anode behind the prop and look for the ratio stamp.

It's a 270 or 275 There should be a tag on the upper gear box just in front of the top cap.
