2007 Tohatsu 9.8 part needed

Guys Im not sure if this is posted in the right place but Im in need of a used hood for this motor. Im not picky and Id take a Nissan hood if it would fit. Ran up on a great deal on this motor but unfortunately someone had stolen the cover. Looked on Ebay-no luck. Anyone ? Thanks, Rick

This is a 2 stroke. Are the hoods interchangable ?

Then you don't have an 07 model. The last 2-strokes in the U.S. were in 2004. Not really important, unless you are trying to get parts. I have new 2-stroke covers available, but none in the used or new dinged up category.

Thanks for the skinny. I dont have possesion of the motor yet so not even sure what color it is. Can I run the serial no to find out exactly what model it is?

The model is on a label on the motor, along with the serial.

What Paul said, but the year will not be on the tag and isn't important anyway. Model number or model and serial number for parts identification.

Ok went by and bought the motor today and to my surprise it is a 2007 model but is a 4 stroke motor. Its dark blue in color and the serial no is 027945xg, the model no is MFS 9.8 A3 . How much for the scratch and dent blue one you have ? And sorry for the misinformation.

Well I have no idea of new cost but Ive seen similar hoods sell on ebay for 50 bucks so that seems a fair price for a used hood with some damage.

Not to be insulting, but you need to understand that cowls are limited production items, and are quite expensive new. For example, 3V2S676301, UPPER MOTOR COVER MFS8A/9.8A, costs $322 msrp. Frankly, if you can find a good used one for $100-150, you have found a bargain. Yes, you may find a cheap cowl for a super-obsolete motor (if someone just wants to get rid of it -- instead of throwing it out), but my latest check on ebay, cowl tohatsu | eBay show them costing well over $100, even for a pretty beat-up one... and none available for a 9.8A at all.

Yeah I understand they are expensive new but I also know I only gave 150.00 for the motor. Anyway Im in no hurry and maybe something will come along.

I think you have this all wrong. If someone had given you the motor for free, would you feel that someone else should do the same with the cowl? A better way to look at the situation is that you now have a $500-1000 motor for $150 (depending on condition and configuration -- is it electric, remote, etc?), and that means that anything you spend on it, up to $350-850 (again depending on condition and configuration), is money well spent.

Im not looking for anything free. Im just not gonna pay more for a cowl than I did for the motor. What something may be worth is a subjective term and depends on whos buying and whos selling and a price both can agree on lol. The 50.00 I mentioned is not that far away from the 100.00 you mentioned and yeah its electric start-tiller handle.
