When I bought the boat last year the motor seemed to be running hot. Made them fix it before the sale. They replaced the therms. The seller was told the therms needed to be upgraded. Apparently there was a upgrade on the therm housing? Anyone know about this? Anyway new therms. Gauge still reads hot. No alarm. Mechanic tested the temp of the block. Gauge bad. Question : upgrade on the housing or b.s. Cost the seller about $500 for the new therms.
Thanks, Dead Eye

$500 thermostats????????

or $500 for thermostats, new housing, plus labor. If it is a service bulletin it should be covered, right?

Don't know. I didn't pay for the work, the previous owner did. Don't know if upgrade was needed or smoke blown up my a$$ to make the deal go through. New therms were put but upgrade? Note the warranty did expire before the sale.
Thanks Dead Eye

A service bulletin was issued in 2000 on the 225 Opti which replaced the factory 120 thermostat with a 130. The housing cover was replaced also to accomodated the physically larger stat. Cost wise (individually purchased) the housing is $13.00 and the stat $60.00(!!!). A kit was available but never checked its cost.

225 EFI two stroke should be maybe 13 dollars a stat and maybe 25 dollars per housing. occasionally the salt will eat up a housing, takes maybe 10 min to replace the stats on that motor.
no upgrades that I am aware of for the EFI 2 stroke 225.
the opti is a DFI and a different breed.
