I am about to put a new head gasket onto my F80 do i need to use some type of gasket sealant?, The manual does not specifiy the use of a sealant, the reason i ask is when i took the head off there appears to be some form of gasket sealeant (black in colour) on the head and block side. Is this just the somehting that has compressed off the original head gasket? Is there any other tricks, traps i should be aware of?

unless its specified, no sealant, if your nervous you can go around the water passages with a bit of Gel-seal.pay attention to the manual when installing the cam, its a non clearence motor.
