does two stroke oil go off . have some that smells of ammonia

Do you mean "spoil"?<br /><br />It should not smell like ammonia.

Ammonia smell does not mean that it is spoiled. TC-W3 oils have different aromas due to the various additive packages involved. Older OMC oil had an ammonia smell. Texaco smells like tar or kerosene. Some just have a petroleum odor.<br /><br />Oil does have to be kept in airtight containers since the solvents can evaporate and change the chemistry of the oil.

The Pennzoil Blend we use kinda smells like that. I was told a long time ago from an OMC dude that that smaell was put the OMC oil on purpose to help determine if the oil is in the fuel or not. I'm not really sure about that but its what I was told.
