my boat only has one battery currently..before i purchased the boat i had a "free boat" which needed a lot, including a battery, which i purchased...2 month later i got a new boat..my question is can i purchase the proper switch and wiring and use both batteries..one is a starting and the other is a deep cycle, i'm thinking they are both close in age..my concern is that if one is in better shape than the other it might bring the good one down. thanx

Yes you can. Do a search of the forums for dual batteries. Lots of discussion about it.

You will want to use a switch though!!! That way you can use your starting battery to start the boat, then move the switch to "both" and charge both batteries while running. Then while floating, etc. switch to the deep cycle battery and leave your starting one completely charged till the next time you need to start the motor.

If your happen to drain your starting battery, you can move the switch to "both" to start the motor.

Just make sure both batteries are the same type. (gel, etc.)

Good luck!
