Hi guys i just wanted to know what is the difference between a 1996 johnson 112 spl and a 115 spl engine? I just like to get a few more hosepower out of my 112 spl . I know the orificles in the 115 are slightly larger, and i have the chart for that from the omc service manual.is there anything else i need to do to make it a 115????thank you for your help.

what i know about this : spl means special , 112 is just like 115 but were older motors with no features like powertrim or vro system .
they were not really downrated in horsepower but just the looks and options to have a reason for the cheaper price .
this series was developed to stay in competition with other outboard factories like mercury and yamaha

112 SPL is the same as a 115 but without all the bells and whistles.

Don't Mess around trying to make it a 115. You won't notice any difference.

Ryan is correct. The 112 was a marketing gimmick OMC used for a few years to offer a cheaper alternative to their 115. Same exact engine, less the expensive VRO system. I believe the power trim was an extra-cost option on both the 88 and 112 "specials".
