1992 mercury 115hp - no spark

I am helping a buddy of mine diagnose a 115hp mercury inline 4cylinder outboard he just go.

the motor ran great at the guys house before he bought it, we brought it home and it fired right up again. We took the boat down to the launch, put the boat in the water and it would not start. After cranking the motor for a few min, we pulled it back out of the water and out it back on the hose. still would not start. we checked the spark plugs for spark and we are not getting any at all?

what are the things we need to check to spark to just suddenly shut down?

Start simple, harness kill , shift switch and starter solenoid. Possibly the ignition switch could have loose wires and 1 of the "Mag" posts is grounded out?
