1992 65 johnson outboard trim n tilt

put new trim motor on with the whole unit off the boat. tested before putting back on. When i put it back on the boat it keeps blowing fuses going in the up position and it isnt hooked to motor. What the heck? took off again same thing works great on bench but not on boat. I may not have the proper amout of oil in unit so it works on its side on the bench but not in the upright position on the boat, does that make any sense?

I would check for a short in the up circut.

i will check but cant understand why it doesnt short out on the bench with same switch? could it be oil level?

What happens if you check it in the upright right position on the bench ??

works fine, havent tried anything else yet ran out of fuses

What if you follow the blue wire all the way back to the relays? Could there be a break in the insulation?
Maybe it is shorting out when you put 12v to it. It obviously isn't shorting on the bench, so I would look at the harness in the boat.
