That's called your Eye Bolt. The Bondo Resin from HD and Lowe's has wax in it. This means if it dries, you must sand the previous lamination before you can lay another layer over it and wash it down with acetone. It does not adhere as well as regular laminating resin. The 1708 it stronger than normal woven roving.

Finally getting the balsa replaced in the bow of the boat, feels nice to get sprayed by water squeezing out of the nasty balsa @ 95degrees out. I was grinding around the keel eye bolt wooden block and had water run out from under when I broke the seal. Ripped the wedge out and it appears to be pine? It was starting to rot and was wet but the major issue found was a 3/8" gap between the keel and the very tip of the block. I don't think there's supposed be a gap correct? Prob why its cracking the gelcoat and moving around. And what type of wood should I replace this with? Stronger the better or keep the rot resistant thing in mind? TY for helping! Oh yea, look at the eye bolts nuts, the decayed one was on the keel. Gotta love factory hardware, its bs.

It's not so much the wood as it is the encapsulation methods. If it's properly sealed where water can't get to it pine is ok. Douglass Fir would be better. Make sure you fabricate the new block to conform to the shape of the hull as best as you can and then coat it with epoxy and then bed it in thickened resin and chopped fibers when you reinstall it. Make sure to coat the holes and the bolts with epoxy or 3M 5200 sealant as well. If you do this, you're pretty much guaranteed that it will last 40+ years.

Could I use marine plywood I already have and laminate it to thickness or should it be real wood?

Marine Plywood would be GREAT! But again you need to shape it to conform to the shape of the hull and then bed it in thickened resin.

How should I install the front keel stringer? Originally it was tabbed off the hull in several areas and on the ends while other area where bedded to the hull in 3/4" resin glass due to being closer to the hull, in those areas the glass and resin built up and resin ran underneath it to connect it to the hull directly. I had to grind 3/4" resin/glass in the keel to get the balsa core material flush up to so I could lay glass with no step there. I could not tell if the roven woven originally on the balsa core went under the keel stringer or was lay'd onto it, there are two layers on the lower of the keel stringer but hat could be from the balsa or a first tabbing then a second wrapping the keel stringer completely in one piece of glass. I'd put pics on but it will not let me.

I'd recommend you use Photobucket to post your pics. Upload em to there then use the IMG Code copy the pics into your iBoats thread.

I'm doing the balsa core on the other side of the boat before I put the stringer back in just incase you noticed the black in the pic

What should I use to adhere the deck plywood down to the stringer? Factory used a pink rock hard adhesive that I cannot figure out what it was, also there was a white hard filler adhesive connecting the a splashwell to the transom I cannot identify. Any ideas what the adhesives were?

I'd recommend what we affectionately call "Peanut Butter" here on the forum. Polyester resin, Cabosil, and Chopped Milled Fibers mixed to the consistency of creamy Peanut Butter. Great Glue and very strong.

I've adheared all the balsa and the transom wood to the hull with epoxy/fumed silica & 1/4 long glass fibers I cut up from left over woven roving, seems very strong. I've also adheared the keel stringer to the hull and stringers to the transom with vinylester/fumed silica & 1/4" glass strands I cut up from woven roving and shredded csm. Hope the glass I cut up is close to milled fibers strength, I really don't want to grind anymore! Think my mix will hold up? I know the epoxy is fine but never heard of milled fibers. Guy at US Composites said to cut up glass and mix it in with the cabosil and poly/vinyl resin to make PB. 350 hours into this crazyness. Looking pretty good though. Transom was the easiest part so far. Balsa in the bow of the boat deff the hardest cause of its location and prep required to get new balsa down nicely.

Getting close to carpeting the interior now! Foam will be fun tomorrow.

Should I install the tank as it was oem? It sat upon 12" of support on either end of the tank with nothing underneath to prevent wear through on the tank! Tank looks perfect 100% otherwise it would be replaced. I was contemplating installing a third support in the middle, tank is permanently bowed from being this way, so if I did install a support it would not be on the same plane as the end supports which would make it a little funner getting it right.

Ended up re-wiring a lot of the electrical on the top half while I have a good position to work.

Found 17 ground wires in three different crimp style wire nuts that all fed back to the battery via one 16 awg ground wire.

I added 47 feet of new ground wire individualizing grounds/replacing black burnt grounds, and re wired all new green strapping wire to the filler neck-tank-gas gauge-ground which I found cut inspecting everything.

Updated the fuse box and individualized a lot of the 12v + wires as I also found those in groups of three or four in a crimp wire nut powering multiple items off one fuse.

Re: 1990 skeeter s-130 stringer/floor replacement.

Does the space under the fuel tank run the length of the keel???

If so I would leave it open to allow water to run to the back and provide a path for airflow when drying things out,..
