after getting the ignition problem settled out, i started getting the fuel problem taken care of. i hand pumped out all the bad fuel and put a few gallons of good fresh fuel in. i pumped the throttle a few times and had the motor running. it was really rough and at WOT it wasn't getting many rpm's. if i dropped the throttle from WOT it would die. eventually it would keep running even at 1/4 throttle. but would still die at neutral position. i stopped running the engine because i started to smell and see smoke. i didn't restart the engine but i let it cool down and stopped for the night. that was 3 days ago. i go out today to start the engine and i get nothing but fire shooting out of the carb. it sounds like it wants to fire up sometimes, but then just kicks the bucket and shoots a nice flame out the top. its got a 2 barrel carb on it with a brand new fuel pump.

I tried it again today. does the same thing. just turns over until it would run by itself and then backfires thru the carb with a nice fireball and quits trying. anyone have any ideas?
