I was going over my motor yesterday to prep it for the new season. Did a comp test 125 psi in all cylinders. Next I did a cranking spark test, all cylinders have spark except for #2. I haven't swapped coils yet but am already chalking it up to faulty switch box. The serial # is B279500. My question is, should I be looking to buy OEM Mercury boxes or can I use aftermarket ones? My boxes are still bolted to the motor, but I found OEM Mercury switch box part # 7778A 6 which seems to be the replacement for my year. Damn things are like $200 a piece!:grumpy: Im trying to get another year out of this motor and hope I don't have to dump a ton of $ into it. I also need to rebuild my carbs, are there kits readily available, and how involved is the rebuild? Thanks Mike

In the interim, here is a link to the condensed version of the Clymer manual to help you with testing the Ignition system, (page 328). Download it soonest to your computer as the link is short lived.
