1986 30hp johnson overheated and now won't start

Changed the water pump today and hoped it would start and cool things abit however; it cranks but won't start. :facepalm: I.m not sure to check next, I know I need air, fuel and combustion....Did I miss something.

Compression!!!!! You probably fried it.

Compression check, then spark check with a spark tester.

Over heating can often times score the pistons and make the rings stick in the grooves. A compression test is in order.

Wire harness caught fire I gave the boat away to lawn mowers guy....and got another boat a year later

Those guys are inveterate tinkerers, small business guys at least. I'm thinking they might be a source for old outboards, busted trimmers, bikes....
