1986 3.0 Mercruiser

I have been on Google and searched on here. Maybe I missed something. My question is will a 1986 3.0 Serial# 0A662126 HP MC1 Model# 01989016 R/MR ALPHA ONE Sterndrive work with a 1985 3.0 Serial # 6901059 HP 140 Model # 01409005 120 HP / 2.5 L 140 HP /3.0 R/MR / ALPHA ONE . My motor which is the 86 is seized and I want to put my out drive with the 85. Will everything mash up or is the gear ratio different. Thanks in advance.

with a 3.0, the main two choices are 1990 and older, or 1991 and newer (when the crank changed)
