I have a 1985 Johnson 70 hp whith new carb kits. good fuel deliverie, bored .020 over, new pistons and rings, compression 115lbs (not yet broke in). Motor dies upon acceleration sometimes, If I hit choke it will help,But other times it runs well. I have notice quite a few postings with this same or approximately same problem, Is there a after market set of carbs or reeds or ect. that will improve this particuler outboard model? Any input to correct this would be greatly appreaciated.

A set of Boyesen reeds will work well in that motor. It may simply be a matter of rejetting the carbs also. The carbs you have are calibrated for 1985 fuel which we dont have anymore.

Good luck!
