1983 Mercruiser Sterndrive

Removed my stern drive to replace the water pump. Should there be a gasket or seal between the upper and lower unit?

There is a seal (quad ring) item 5 part number 26-455771

Just make sure you fill it slowly from the bottom plug untill it comes out the top plug
