I have a 1980 7.5 hp Mercury. I am confused regarding the position of the blue and green wires to the ignition coils. From Seloc, the green wires should be to cylinder no. 1 and the blue wires to cylinder no. 2. Clymer indicates green to coil no. 1 and blue to coil no. 2 (I think that is the same position).

Anyway, when I bought this motor the blue wires were to the coil for the top cylinder and the green to the bottom cylinder. If the top cylinder is no. 1 and the bottom no. 2 (which seems logical) I think my wires are reversed.

Please advise. Thank you.

Thanks for the diagram. Do the green wires from the switchbox attach to the starboard or port side of the engine coils? I can't quite tell this from the diagram. Thanks again for your help.

The grn(+) and grn/wht(-) attach to #1(top cylinder) coil and the blue(+) and wht (-) go to cylinder #2
