Will I have a 20' Deep V Aluminum with a 1978 Mercury 115HP. The problem is its manual trim. I found this in the garage it came with the motor. What is it?

It appears to be a Jackplate. It is likely manual, but may be of use to you in increasing performance on that Tower of Power! I use one on my Merc 1500

How much do these run?? I was told I shouldn't use these on my boat. They said they are made for bass boats or speed. I have a bay/ocean boat. What are the pros and cons of this unit? I was also told it would put too much pressure on my transom. Heres a picture of my outboard mounted on myboat. The bottom holes for the mounts are low on the boat so I want to figure out how to mount it alittle higher in the transom. Will this help my problem?

It could very well help your problem. See where the A-V plate lines up on the transom. I would mount the jackplate such that when it is all the way down, the motor's antiventilation plate is even with the bottom of the hull.

You can then lift the motor with the jackplate and see if performance improves.

Of course, power trim would help a lot as well. Your prop also looks like it could use some help.
