1977 85 HP Evinrude controls

Can anyone tell me what the thumb screw on front of remote box is for. It's a Johnson single handle with spark advance lever, electronic choke on ign switch? Had to remove control box to replace sideboard and turned this device and don't know if I screwed anything up or not.

Just bought first boat and am starting learning curve.

I believe it just a tensioner ..mine has it also...its to make tension on the remote...

Throttle friction knob; it should be adjusted only enough to keep the control arm from slipping if you take your hand away.
