Newbie here and I'm running into problem on a project boat that I got for free. The engine is a 140 mercruiser serial number
#462913 and the problem is the engine will crank over but has no spark. I checked to see if it was
getting power to the coil and it is ( 11.85 volts ) but there is no spark coming out of the
coil tower. The boat has been sitting for several years, and it appears to have a new coil, plug wires
and tune parts. What should I be checking for??? I just checked for voltage drop at the coil while
engine is being cranked over and it drops to 9.32 volts.

well after checking voltage at the + side of the coil, I checked the voltage on the - side
of the coil. Found no voltage. Removed the distributor cap and checked the points. Found
to be green from sitting. Once I cleaned it off, I rechecked voltage on the ground side of
the coil and now there was 11.86 volts! Checked for spark at the coil, and waaa laaa; there
is spark! Cranked it over after pour a little gas down the carb and she fired right up!!! Now
for the coolant leak issue!!!
