My friend has a 1976 55hp Johnson which we had running one day. The next day I went to start it up again and the boat wouldn't start. I changed the gas and the plugs. It is getting gas and fire to the plugs but won't start. Could it be flooded? If we choke it out she spits but then dies again. Any ideas? Someone mentioned a kill switch... Where would i find this?

you need to look at the old plugs and see if you have any metal on them... always run a compression check on all cylinders before replacing any parts!!!! i have learned the hard way. i could be possible that you overheated the motor on your last trip out and siezed a ring. if your motor is holding good compression, getting feul, and has good spark, then it should crank. try holding in the choke after it POPS off spits, raise the warm lift or fast idle lever...
