Hi I just purchased a 115 Evinrude for my newly aquired 22 foot aluminum starcraft. The tilt had some worn out pins in the bottom so I replaced them also the stainles steel lines going to the cylenders were cracked from too much movement. What kind of oil do I use to fill the resivior and can I bleed it by opening the by-pass screew and manualy raising the engine up and down.Any help on this topic would be great. Thanx Scott A Ontario Canada

Re: 1976 115 HP Evinrude tilt

Use OMC/BRP trim fluid.

The reservoir plugs are in or under the reservoir depending on which pump you have, Calco or Prestolite.

You clear the air in the lines by cycling the motor up and down with all plugs closed.

Be sure to support the motor when the reservoir is opened, then fill, close, cycle, support and repeat.

let out a drop of your existing fluid. if it is red then use atf to fill. if it is oil then use trim fluid or hydraulic oil. System will last longer with oil than atf but the two should not really be mixed.
