Hey guys and gals, Ive picked up a 1975 20hp evenrude model #205B62.

I cant seem to find parts for this thing. BRP website dose not have this motor listed in their parts catalog, and searching for parts on this site I cannot find anythig for it here. There is no parts listing for 1975 20HP anywhere.
:confused::confused::confused:
Is there an equivalant motor like a 25HP that parts can be used?

Re: 1975 Evenrude Parts?

The online parts listing is hosted on the BRP U.S. site. In 1975 OMC brought back the 20 horse Johnson & Evinrude in Canada only after last offering the Johnson 20 / Evinrude 18 in 1973. That is why there is no listing for the 1975 20.

It depends what specifically you are looking for, but essentially anything that fits a 25 should fit the 20. Differences would be subtle and would surround the intake & exhaust passages. The 25 had a larger carburator, thinner reed valves, revised intake manifold (meaning a different crankcase casting), enlarged intake ports & reshaped exhaust bypass cover. I also thought the crank on the 25 was heavier for added durablity while running 1000 rpm higher than the 20 (the 25s revved!)

Another difference on the Canadian 1975 20 horse was a built-in 45 watt a/c generator for running power tools. The 20s were popular in remote regions and were often used by Eskimos with the large work canoes.

Thank you for your answer. Specifically I am looking for a head gasket(for now) but Im sure I will need a few other things as weel. I plan on putting a crab kit in and replacing fuel pump. Im concernd the carb kit may be hard to find if the carbs are not the same as a 25.

The carb kits usually have the gaskets for several carbs so the 25 kit will probably work for the 20.

I remember getting a lot of extra seels when I rebuilt the carbs on my 86 E40 last year.

Any idea about the head gasket and if it is interchangeable between my 75 20hp and anything else?

Re: 1975 Evenrude Parts?

Checking on the BRP site I found that the head gasket was the same between the 1973 Evinrude 18 & 25, plus it carried the same head gasket part # for the 1975 25-horse. You should be pretty safe using part # 0306163 .

I also took the liberty of checking the carbs. Beside individual car parts you can still get complete carb assemblies for the 25s. The same number is given whether it is a 1973 or a 1975; part # 0385815 ($228 Cdn). The complete carb assembly for the 18 (& probably the 20, I'll have to check) is # 0385814 but is no longer available.

EDIT: In checking some sample years of 18 vs. 25 Evinrude vs. 20 vs. 25 Johnson, the complete carb kits vary between makes. This may be for something as simple as different knobs on the mixture shaft & choke knobs on Johnson vs. Evinrude. Bear in mind that individually most carb components are probably the same between the 18 & 20, and that the 25 carbs are basically the same. My advice is pour over the various parts lists very closely.
