The brown wire is currectly hooked upto the stator junction block. The wiring diag shows it should goto the switch box. What do you guys say?

It should be connected to one of the yellow wires coming from the stator. The connection is made at the rectifier where both yellow wires are teminated.

that depends what tachometer you are using.for original merc tach from that era use brown wire connected to switch box(it uses dissy signal).for new tach use stator signal(as above tread)

How do I tell if it is an orignal tach from that era?

There was a wire at one time on the switch box but was already removed when I got it.

If supposed to be driven off switchbox, Tach will probably say "Mercury" or "Quicksilver" on it. It will be real old as well(mid seventies or older)...Most likely you have an aftermarket tach that wants to read stator pulses.

The crank gear bolts look to be staked. Should I remove these or work the timing belt into place?

Engine side with fuel pumps removal.

upper fuel pump & mounting gasket.

carb removal-- is this how you guys do it, to pull the starter? Had to pull the filter screen housings to access the upper carb nuts on top two carbs.

Tach & speedo, lower unit off, port side as I got the boat, starboard side restoreer & wax with an elect. buffer.

Oh it is hot outside. I've been working 12hr days in it all week. I am so glad we got elec, A/C and internet. the rest of the street has no power. Land lines & fios tv is out too but I dont care about that.

For fuel line I think I will go with one of these:

FC234-05 AQP High Temp Fuel & Oil Fire Resistant USCG/MMT NMMA/BIA FC234-5
http://aeroquip.cc/fc234-05aqphightempfuelandoilfireresistantuscgmmtnmmabiafc234-5.aspx

or this

FC234-06 AQP High Temp Fuel & Oil Fire Resistant USCG/MMT NMMA/BIA FC234-6
http://aeroquip.cc/fc234-06aqphightempfuelandoilfireresistantuscgmmtnmmabiafc234-6.aspx

Maby a little nap now.....?

Just work the belt on in place. lowering the flywheel as you go. No need to remove the pulley from the flywheel.

The impeller has no visible wear but will be replaced with a complete housing kit. The drive shaft had grease all up & down it. Is that something I should do is put a coating of vaseline/grease on the driveshaft?

Can I change out the prop seal without taking the lower unit apart? (will it come out the front)? Do I need a sleeve to install the new seal so the prop splines dont cut it?
