Hey all.

I am pretty forum and web savvy and did search for this info but came up a bit dry.

I have a new Teleflex tach I installed in my 1971 16' Starcraft with a 1971 50hp Johnson.
I know this is an alternator motor and have everything but the sensor wire hooked up.
From what I have read there should be a grey wire for the tach in the control. I did not see this grey wire anywhere. Can anyone tell me if this year had that elusive grey wire in the throttle control box or in the power head?
If not, what termination point do I use for my tach sensor?

Thanks in advance.

Tachs read off the alternating pulses from the stator. Any of the leads from the stator charging portion can be used for the signal. The designated tach signal wire is merely attached to one of those. Following may help.

Thanks Chris for the diagram.

Upon further investigation the grey wire was in fact in the control, just shrinked off. It was under some other wires and I did not dig enough yesterday to see it.

Everything works fine now.

Thanks again.
