1970 Pre Alpha only took 1.25 quarts?

Drained the outdrive for 1 hour and pumped in 1.25 quarts of Merc gear oil in the bottom hole and it is flooding out of the upper hole. Thought it was supposed to take about 2.25 quarts. What is this mystery?

an mc-1 drive takes 32 fluid ounces......
But still sounds like your 1/4 of a quart short. Make sure the drive is level. If you pumped some air in along with your fluid replace the screws with the old washers and run it for a few minuites on the muffs and then recheck the level to see if it burped. After your happy make sure you put new washers on.

my 233 drive (pre-alpha) was right at 1qt.
