I got the 1970 evinrude 40 horse I have cleaned and rebuilt the carb with new needle valve, gaskets etc. on ocassion it seems to stick and when I prime from the tank it pushes fuel out of the 3/8 hole on top of the carb that faces fwd. When I take it apart again and put it back together it work fine, then as I walk by to test a day or so later hit the primer bulb and out the top hole again. Bet I have had it apart 8 times. Any ideas?

Float is not adjusted correctly or is gas-soaked and sinking.

That hole is the bowl vent. For some reason, the float and/or float valve is not doing its job. I also suspect it is sinking. Or just on the verge of sinking. Put in a new float. Don['t waste your time trying to salvage the old one.

Totally Dito with F_R No Need to even try to find a pinhole in a float that takes several days to sink !!
