Hi all. I have a shifting problem too, but I searched and will try some things out first.

I know with my previous outboards, as long as the engine is running I had 2 steady streams of water jetting from the back. I just bought this boat/motor. Today I started it for the first time and didn't see any water coming from the 2 holes. So I have a few questions.

Does this engine have a thermostat? If so where is it located? At what temperature is it supposed to open?

What is the black box located between the heads with (what looks like) water hoses leading to the heads?

Does this sound like a waterpump issue?

Where can I get a book for this outboard?

Thanks for the help. I'm knowledgeable when it comes to automotive engines, but don't know alot about outboards.
