I have a 1960 Tilt Holsclaw Trailer, I would like to remove the bolt that holds the tongue. Any suggestions? It appears its in a sleeve and welded on the inside.

Ayuh,... Heat it up Cherry Red, 'n throw cold water on it, then run it out with an impact gun....

You'll need Ox/ Ac torches to get it hot enough...

It's not a regular bolt. Has nuts on both sides.

Ayuh,... Then I'm having a hard time visualizing it Ed...
The Ox/Ac torches will fit it 1 way or another....

If it's a Stud, remove the nuts, 'n drive it out...
If it's welded in-place, it'll have to be Cut out...
Those "Sleeves" are usually nothing but a piece of steel pipe...
If the Stud is rust-frozen in it, Heat it Cherry Red, Quench it, 'n Drive it out...

Got a Picture, 'n explanation, maybe,..??

Re: 1960 Holsclaw Trailer

A lot of people have welded those bolts to reduce some sway and bucking. I personally have never seen a use for a tilt trailer but someone may have. Mine was welded when I got it and I thought about removing it but again I have never encountered a situation where I would need it. Without a picture you never know what someone has done for a fix. May have welded a sleeve in place to use a smaller bolt or something. Like Bondo said....cutting torch will work 1 way or another.

If you do not has a torch set (Oxy/Acet) available .....you can use a propane torch head and a container of MAPP avilable at the hardware store but it will take a bit longer.

Thanks Guys, I'll take a picture and post. I'm looking to remove the bolt and replace with a pin so I can take the tongue off and close the garage.
Any one have the colors for the trailer? Blue and fenders a tan?
