I have a 1986 Johnson 150 that went bad. I Have a buddy that has a 1978 135 johnson but it came off of a pontoon boat, so it doesn't have tilt/trim.
Can I use the tilt/trim unit off of my 150 for the 135 motor?

Johnson didn't make a 135 in 1978. The last year they made a 135 in the seventies was 1975 and the tnt mounted onto different transom brackets than the 150.
The power trim on your 150 will fit 1978-1998 V-4 & V-6 engines but are you sure on year as 1976 was last year for 135hp and it will not fit 1978 and earlier engines
