We have 1953 10 HP Johnson Sea Horse with 18" (short) shaft. Our Siren 17 Sailboat requires a motor with at least a 22" (long) shaft. (1) Is 10 HP too much power or too much weight-wise for a 1978 Siren 17? (2) Are there brackets that can lower the motor enough yet not damage the boat, and are there devices permitting safe steering and control with the lowered motor?
