I have a 2005 tracker tundra 18wt with a 115hp optimax. When running wot I'm pushing 5200-5300rpm and only doing about 34-35 mph with me and one other person in the boat. It seems to me with a fairly light aluminum boat I should be running faster then this? I just bought the boat this year and was wondering if anyone out there is running similar setup on this boat and what they are running top speed and rpm? Also what your running for prop pitch and any other info you could give me would be appreciated!

Someone may be along with the exact setup, but unlikely.
In the mean time if you can get us your prop size, usually under the prop nut.
Boat dry weight is 1550.Is your speed by gps?Is the bottom clean and smooth?
Check that the throttle opens all the way.How is the hole shot?

I have a 17.5ft aluminum smokercraft w/115 Johnson, similar to yours but weighs 1200lb dry . Tried a 19p and 17p props and top speed is 42-43mph on GPS. The 17p gives much better holeshot and no loss at top end but runs a little high on the RPM's (5500) with just me in the boat. The 19p is ideal rpm wise but the holeshot is terrible. I'd say your top speed with that boat and 115 is 35-38mph tops.

Seems slow for a 115 even with that weight, is it just a slow hull (have a lot of ribs on the bottom or something)? I have a 17ft fiberglass v hull around the same weight that did 44 with a 115, and does 47 with a 130hp.

Getting some more info will help us figure out how your current setup is really performing.

It currently has a 19p prop and that is GPS speed... Hole shot is definitely not impressive. Terrible with 3 in the boat

Is the Tundra a big Jon boat with lots of built-ins? Does it have a bunch of keels/strakes on the bottom.
Is the prop in excellent condition?Motor in excellent tune?Throttle opening all the way?
Slip is really high at 24%. Normal is something around 10% First thought is the tach is off.
10% slip would make rpm about 4400. Perhaps you can borrow a shop tach to check the rpm.
If the rpm is really that low it would account for some of that high slip.
A 17"would add about 300 or 400 rpm and improve hole shot.
If the rpm really is 4400 you have more problems than a prop.
Easy way out would be to get a 17" prop and see what develops.

Re: 05 tracker tundra with 115 opti prop?

It's not a John boat style it's a stepped v-hull. The prop is brand new and the motor runs lot a top only about 50 hrs on it. I do have a suspicion that the tach isn't reading correctly because sometimes at wot it will read 6500 and then most of the time it reads closer to 5300. I might try getting my hands on a tach cause I'd rather not buy another new prop unless I know it will help since the one I have is only a couple weeks old... Thnx for the tip
