mY 40HP 1991 eVINRUDE has difficulty starting. It idles a few sec then dies - after 20 attempts to start she finally stays idling- if i try to incr the revs during the initial idling, she dies-?flooding? this only happens when cold. Ist time starting when warm. I have been running 50:1 premix plus the vro system to check if the vro works - which it does. Right now i have a spark to the plugs but she will not fire up at all. Plug check showed a watery oil at the head, and cleaning them did not help start. I replaced the fuel with straight gas no mix as the vro is working ans still no starting. Any thoughts?

Hi kritzi,

These motors are very particular when it comes to operating temps. As a start I would replace the thermostat and see how it goes. They hate running too cold.
