Default Evinrude Fuel Guage

My fuel gauge shows, 3/4 tank, when full, but after run my boat for 2 or 3 days, it still shows 3/4 tank. When I fill it up, it take 25 gallons or so. I can't figure out why the gauge doesn't work right. Is there anything I can check to correct this?

Fuel gauges are notoriously inaccurate. Most below deck fuel tanks are long and narrow. Depending on where the filler is and the attitude of the boat when refueling, you may not be able to get it full. On the other hand, the location and adjustment of the float in the tank can also affect the gauge -- again, because the tank is long and shallow. If you adjust the float so the gauge shows full when the tank is full, it may not be accurate when the tank is empty. My preference then, is to adjust the float so the gauge reads empty when it really is empty. Anything other than that is just a guess as to how much fuel you actually have on board.
