Last time out the boat would not start to get back to the dock. We tried different batteries, finally was towed. Starter tried to start, did once but boat was cold and died. Starter seemed to drag. Now have installed new solenoid and starter and all I get is the gear spinning with out going up to the flywheel. I have a full 12 volts to the solenoid. ????

Check your battery connections at the battery and eveery where else; all must be shiny bright and tight. You may read 12 volts and not have any amps. Also get the battery load tested at auto parts house or generator shop. Good luck.

Have shined and tightened. Have not load tested, will do though battery is six mo old. That seems to be consisitent with various tests, like going straight to starter. What about battery cables?

If you bend the cables and feel or hear any crunch they may be corroded internally and have too much resistance to allow the full amperage to get through.

Dumb question. Do you have the battery cables hooked up correctly ?? If not, the starter will spin backwards.
