Alright guys. I recently aquired a 1979 35hp evinrude with a rusted tilt tube that is preventing the motor from tilting up or down (unless I beat it with a hammer). So for the last few days I have been trying to remove it but it wont budge... how do people get these things out?? I've been pretty much beating the hell out of it and all I'm doing is crushing the threads. I'm not trying to save it so that's not a problem. i'll post pictures later so you guys can see what im working with. any help is greatly appreciated. Hallmark

Re: tilt tube rusted

I had one like that, I used the two nuts and tightened them back to back on the same side. Used a torch to heat the transom clamps until I could rotate the tilt tube. I just kept spinning the tilt tube and spraying it down with penatraiting oil until it would come out. You will have to replace the plastic bushings in the transom clamps and the nuts.
