My lower unit on the 66 is bad and I picked up this sometimes working 1960 40 horse Johnson. My question is cal I take the lower unit from the 60 and put it into the 66? The 60 is a model number rdsl22cc and the 66 is rdsl28b.

Yep, direct swap. Assuming both actually are long shaft. Many have been converted to short and even back to long....more than once.

The lower units are the same and will swap right over, but you will need to use your original drive shaft, water tubes and shift rod coupler. RDSL's came from the factory with a longer lower shift rod and a standard size coupler, so you may have to swap that out. Converted long shaft motors will have a 5 inch shift rod coupler, where as factory long shafts will have a five inch longer, lower shift rod.
