bought an 87 doral in march and have had no problems until this past weekend, while leaving the dock felt and heard clunking as if the boat was put into or taken out of gear. turned around and it got worse. docked the boat, when i started it again to move it to the ramp i backed up and when i put it into drive nothing happend and then i could not reverse. got the boat out of the water and put the muffs on. started fine but will not go into gear. after i shut it off and took the muffs off gear oil was running out of the inlets on the bottom end. i removed the bottom end and found that the gear oil was in my water pump. can anyone give me some advice? FIRST BOAT!

Sounds like some serious problems. These units are expensive to repair and require some special tools. If you dig around you can probably find a usable used unit for a few hundred bucks which will probably turn out to be the cheapest route.

Re: 87 mercrusier 120 alpha 1

posted yesterday about my 87 mercrusier,

Ayuh,... So keep postin' in the Same thread....

Then We don't have to search to find the Info on yer troubles...

You need an Alpha 1, or you could use an MC-1 drive, in 1.98:1 gear ratio...

No other gear ratio will work for ya,...
