SX-M Drive. My question is what is an acceptable surface for sealing of the o-ring that will not allow air to enter?

See the attached pictures of the two surfaces. There seems to be a brownish ring all around the pivot housing - could it be some type of adhesive that was used by the PO?

Are these acceptable? If not, what is an appropriate method to clean them up?

Thanks for your help. By the way, I am asking because I am not getting any water to the impeller housing from the drive.

What you see in the oring groove is old glue used to hold the seal in place. I usually just use a small wire brush by hand and some acetone to clean things up, then paint the surfaces. Glue in a new seal and put it back together with a new seal. NEVER reuse those seals.

Is it necessary to glue them in? I thought as long as they stayed in the groove they would be fine.

Any special paint that is needed?
