1985 johnson gt150, i have removed the lower unit and removed the bearing housing assy., water pump assy
top cover. My question is how does the shift rod come out ?
Is this just being held in by the pressure of the detent balls ? I see no further items that can be removed to
allow the shift rod to be lifted out. attempting to remove and replace a bent prop shaft.
thanx

Re: bent prop shaft

The rod threads out. Then remove the cover that it goes into the drive through and push down on the lever that it threads into. You can then remove the propshaft, provided you already removed the pinion and driveshaft.

Removing the pinion nut and gear first.
