I have a 1989 Bayliner 5.0 Cobra Motor that just won't spark. I have a test light that comes on when I touch both the positive and negative side of the coil. Is this normal? Changed out the coil, starter (it needed it) plugs, condenser, points and rotor. Ran just fine last season just can't get any spark form the coil at all. Motor turns over and have pulled wire out of the top of the coil to see if I could get any arc to a metal motor bracket.... Still nothing.... HELP PLEASE.

Do you have the points set correctly? While on the high point of the distributor cam?

Ayuh,.... Welcome Aboard,..... If the points are open, Ya, that's normal....

Try yer light on the Points,... Key on, points open, you should see power on Only 1 side...

Don thanks for replying. I will try that tonight. I think the setting for the points is .17 but not sure how to set the dwell.
