Hi Forum,

I just became the proud owner of a Draco 1800 ST Powered by a 3.0l Merc 140 - or so I was told....

The starter failed when trying to run the engine up the other day and I had to take it off to find that the pos post was shorting agains the armature as the bacolite insulator has failed.

I took it to my local boat shop who advised that this was not the starter from a 3.0l and upon doig a bit of research I found that it was indeed off a 470.

Part code 50-72550R2

This seems to relate to a 1976 - 79 470

If this is the case I have had my pants pulled down and am not happy.

Can anyone kindly tell me if its possible that they used the starter from a 470 on a 140 ?

Many thanks in advance.

Ron.

Ayuh,.... That's a 470....

thanks Bond-o.

After reading so many negative things about the 470 I'm almost tearing my hair out.

Its ma first boat and intended for family use.

The guy I bought it off calimed it was a 140.

He also claimed that it has been rebuild 1 year ago. I need need a way of telling if it has or not.

What is apparent is that the Charging system is not the original.
Has new alty, no V. Regulator that I can see, no leaks on the outside and it soums smooth and
quiet. I have only run her up for 5 - 10 mins though.

Question is whether to go back to the guy who is 310 miles away and have serious words as I would have pulled out of the sale if I had known it was a 470.

Regards

Ron.
