I have just starded a new project|: Johnny 1984 70 hp.

I bought the motor all in pieces and im pretty shure the shift lever has moved from its calibrated position.

Appart from trials and errors is there an easy way to mesure it to be shure i have it right the first time i insert the LU ?

If it was all in pieces this would be the time to get an OEM Factory service manual or go to shop.evinrude.com and look through their parts diagrams.

The shift shaft height, assuming you're referring to the threaded shaft that goes from the powerhead to the lower unit, can be found in the top secret files: http://forums.iboats.com/showthread.php?t=299680

But also in the OEM factory service manual. You can find them on ebay specific to you motor and year and are mandatory for working on your motor, especially reassembling one someone else took apart.
