I need to replace the black speedometer tube that runs down to the lower unit. Do I have to remove the lower unit to do this or just the cover right above the lower unit? If the unit has to be removed what is the procedure for that?

It all depends on where that line has been comprimised.If it is between the garecase exit and the speedo ,no big deal.Just cut the line ,go to the hardware store,and get a nice nylon barbed splice to fit.Keep in mind that that little pickup on the gearcase is prone to getting plugged so a nice stiff thin wire and some gentle compressed air might help.Do you really need it?Do you not have a gps that tells you much more accuratly how fast you are going?
