Re: 1975 25hp Evinrude

Howdy, FLKRACKER.

Welcome to iboats. :)

Under the flywheel is the stator plate, which adjusts ignition timing. It is operated by your throttle control and is linked to the carburetor, so the spark timing and carb throttle advance together.

I think on that model the shift linkage limits the stator to low speeds when in Neutral or Reverse. My wild guess is that the parts of the shift linkage that limit speed in N and R have slipped out of adjustment or are damaged, but your description is not clear enough yet.

Please give us the model number and tell us whether it is electric start or rope start.

Good luck. :)

When underway, does the motor jump, like you hit as log or other underwater object?

You may want to try a link and sync(its in the top secret files). Have you cleaned your carb? And does your butterfly open completely horizontal when in gear at full throttle? What may help is if you can take a picture of what your talking about, or a short video.

Flkracker; There are several replys to a post by,

1976 25 hp Points question

that deals with the problems you are having in this section farther down. If you go to his post here you will find just about every answer to the problem you are having with your motor. The replys will go into some detail as how to fix most all the electrical and fuel systems troubles. Your motor should be the same as a Johnson 25hp made in 1976. First make sure your Module# and serial # are for a 1975 year of motor.
If the stator plate is jumping around you might have the coils set out to close to the flywheel, or the bearing ring under the stator might cause trouble also. Those motors are great runners when tuned up properly.
I don't think you have any thing wrong with the reeds as it would start and run before. Your trouble will be in the carb, tuneup, or linkage synic timming of the motor.

Let us know what you find out with the Mod# and SR# and we will help all we can to get you back on the water.
