Guys I need some help. Well I took off the two bolts and pulled the armture off a little bit to clean the inside. Well I pulled it out to far and now it slipped out of the brushes. I have no clue how to get the armture housing off to get to the brushings so I can reset them. Any advice?

Not sure of yours but most electric motors have a way of pushing the brushes back and puting a small wire in to hold them or tie them back with string till you get the armature back in place. some have a small hole in the brush housing. the trick is fixing the tie so you can remove it after the repair.

The brushes are held back with a small circle of card tube ...as you push the armature back the tube is pushed out and lives for ever in the back of the motor...you will need to find something the right diameter .... maybe roll one from a 1/4 in strip of postcard and some super glue etc .. In diagram its the round brown thing inside the white circle top left

I know how to push the brushes back, then hold them there. The problem is I can't get to it because the armture housing is in the way. I cant get it off the front of the trolling motor. My hand is to big to reach in there. Forget trying to do it with a long screw drive, I almost went insane. I just need some tips on how to get the housing off.

Personally I would leave it on ..use some long nose pliers .make a tool from bent welding wire or coat hanger ....you wont get your hand in its a gynecological job as they say in the trade ....It will come off with a clout sideways from a big hammer...but you must seal it afterwards ..there is an 0 ring in there...now you know why on the later models the brush gear is at the propeller end ..!!!!

What are you working on, manufacturer, model???

The few I've worked on the magnet housing was removable, so accessing the brushes was easy. I'd be looking at the motor exploded diagram to see how things come apart and go from there. Possibly knocking the nose cap off if it needs to be removed to access the brushes, wood dowel and hammer from inside the motor, tap, tap ,tap. Be sure to make some alignment marks on the end caps before removing them, so they go back on exactly where they came off.

Always use new seals and gaskets when putting the motor back together.

Weird, on my MinnKota Vector 70# the magnet housing comes off the nose cone, so the brushes are easily accessible. Where does the shaft mount to on your motor, the nose or magnet housing?

You can find the exploded diagram of your motor at fish307.com, their parts are pretty reasonable too.
